"I walk with my lantern..." - Lantern festival at the Hundertwasser School

There has been a lot of excitement in the classes over the last few days. Various lanterns were made with the children, songs were rehearsed for the Lantern Festival on Wednesday, 8 November 2023, and it was hoped that the event would not have to fall through in the truest sense of the word. Colleagues from the Hundertwasser School welcomed around 150 people to the schoolyard. Both the families and the staff contributed the goodies for a great buffet so that everyone could drink, nibble and chat before the parade. To ensure that all the children had a light for their lantern, the Hundertwasser School Friends' Association donated a lantern stick for each child. Many thanks for that!

In the lessons, all classes had dealt with the topic of St Martin and realised how important it is to look after your fellow human beings and offer help. The possibilities of sharing of all kinds (e.g. giving time and being there, bringing joy, giving comfort, a pat on the back, donations, etc.) were discussed.

However, in order to show the children that many small contributions can lead to a larger campaign, the parents were asked in advance to bring small donations for the "Gütersloher Tafel" on a voluntary basis. At the end of the event, there was therefore a large table with the families' donations to marvel at, which will be handed over to the food bank with pupils in the near future. Thank you very much for your willingness to donate!

At the end of the lantern festival, the parade through the housing estate was of course a must. To ensure safety, the police accompanied the procession. This was a highlight, especially for the younger (sibling) children, as was the walk with the lantern through the dark streets. And in between, you could always hear children laughing or singing lantern songs - how lovely!
